Where Can We Go For A Romantic, Yet Affordable, Valentine's Day Getaway?

by mailpound 1/15/2009 5:05:00 AM

My husband and I got married in September and are looking forward to spending our first Valentine's Day together as a married couple.  We really want it to be special and romantic but have to watch how much money we spend with the economy right now.  Where are some romantic places we could go this Valentine's Day that will make it special, yet affordable?  Please leave your suggestions by leaving a comment below or feel free to e-mail me at smiller@mailpound.com.  We would greatly appreciate any suggestions you have.
Thanks,
Sheona

any beach that is off season near your home The rates are usually lower You can bundle up, walk the beach holding hands and cuddle up in the room with a heating pad.

Happy lst Anniversary Sheona! There are many affordable hotels & as Harriet pointed out usually places that are off season are less expensive. Depending on what you like to do there are alot of hotels that offer indoor pools & other activities all in one place. I don't know where you live but some areas are offering free tickets to museums & other places of interest. If things get too tight-dress up,cook a special romatic dinner at home, rent a movie, put rose pedals on your bed, light some candles. The importantance of the day & of you spending it together will outway everything else!! Laugh & spend time together! Cuddle with your husband he's the only heating pad you need Smile

Since you didn't state what your budget was, I would suggest an all-inclusive vacation because you can usually find something very affordable as an all-inclusive weekend trip that includes all of your meals, drinks, hotel, everything. Also, I suggest people go to my website and look under the Great Travel Deals and under that tab is Romantic Getaways and All-Inclusive Resorts, or sign up for the Deals and Steals email that gets sent out weekly by my host agency that is great deals that they have negotiated with travel vendors.

I would suggest a cruise. Make sure you get a balcony stateroom. Right now the cruiselines have a lot of last minute specials very affordable. The destinations should not matter since you will be in the stateroom enjoying each other more.

Congratulations!Depending on where you live look for any last minute deals. There are some reasonable trips to like NY or Chicago since it is off season. Beleive it or not there are also some great deals right now on 3 or 4 day cruise from Carnival. Let me know what you come up with and have a great "honeymoon"

Go Local! Many hotels are doing great deals! Call any major hotel and get in on their special Valentines day rates. Some are throwing in a couples massage, champagne breakfast, etc. Make it special and stay in a different environment that is close to home!

My vote would be for THE Royale at Playa Carmen - a fabulous Adults-only All-inclusive in the Riviera Maya. This beachfront property sits just on the fringe of Playa Carmen for great shopping on Fifth Avenue and a little dancing at night in the clubs. And if you reserve a suite with Butler service, you get the use of mini-Cooper car. Great choice, and the flights to Cancun are usually inexpensive
from most cities. Enjoy!

I would suggest a trip to Dublin, Ireland. Isle Inn Tours are offering a 4 night stay at a 4-star hotel in Dublin City for only $255 per person.

The hotel is within easy reach of fine restaurants, museums, art galleries, pubs, night clubs and great shopping. Dublin is a special place where tradition and cultural heritage have blended seamlessly over the centuries to create an atmosphere unique to Dublin. It is the perfect to spend this Valentine's Day!

Head to the N'awlins. Yes it will be cool, but the Mardi Gras crowds will be gone. Tyhere are some great uber romantic hotels in the Quarter with some fabulous restaurants. A great walking city with antiques, art, culture, food, and of course the music.

Nothing better than kicking back at the Spotted Cat and listening to some great jazz!

Congratulations, I suggest an all inclusive due to economy, Cancun, Los Cabos, Riviera Maya or the Bahamas. These places has great weather, all you can eat and drink, activities, Finest dining and safety. You can do a Couples Resort or a Private Beach. Let everyone know you are celebrating your wedding and they will give some a little something extra.

A good travel agent would be able to qualify you by talking to you and getting to know your likes and dislikes and pocketbook. My biggest peeve are clients who make general requests like " I want to go somewhere warm" "I want to go somewhere where the sun shines"
and then you give them ideas and lo and behold they have been there!!!!! or don't like the ideas but they are not willing to give you an idea of their likes, dislikes and budget. So in that spirit----Hershey Park in Pa. for sweet kisses.

When the economy effects us, it also effects the Travel Industry. There are a lot of lovely Bed and Breakfasts all over the country that are privately owned, and feeling the pinch as well. There is sure to be one within driving distance from everywhere.

I would look into finding an Inn that is having a Valentine's weekend special. They usually include an intimate dinner, lovely room, and special attention. Add a special bottle of wine, and you are all set for a very romantic getaway that won't break the bank.

What city do you reside?

How many nights? Just February 14 weekend, 3-days, a week, ...?

Define affordable? What is your budget for this romantic get-a-way?

Snow or warmth e.g., snow ski, beach, cruise, ...?

Great destinations await you. Love to help if you help me with the answers to the above questions.

Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Spa and Retreat is one of the most romantic places on the planet and yet very affordable. They put great thought into every detail, from the varied aroma therapy scents around the property to the personal welcome message spelled out on your bed. An adults-only property, it is the perfect place for your anniversary get-away. Although not all-inclusive, there are enough free activities on the property to keep you busy when you want to leave the room. The spa is excellent. For your one splurge, head up the hill to Frida's at the sister hotel, Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. Although it is pricy, you'll get a discount as a guest of the Pacifica and every bite is worth it.

HI Sheona

I'm Tresha Montgomery , A Travel & Cruise Consultant for Cruise & Tours Unlimited. You can save on costs by staying close to home for Valentine's Day , Try researching some of the hotels in your city for deals, discounts and packages. Which is a great idea for romantic getaways that are affordable, luxurious, or creative for an overnight stay, a long weekend, or more time to enjoy romance on and around Valentine's Day. Some hotels offers champagne, chocolate strawberries, or truffles and rose petals delivered upon arrival.

No, "any" beach that is in off-season mode is NOT the answer. If you are searching for a romantic getaway, while still keeping your costs low for Valentines day, then Cancun Mexico is probably your best bet. We are talking about some of the most amazing beaches in the world. That alone would fire up the romance, throw in some lush but inviting jungles, intriguing Mayan Ruins, quaint nearby fishing villages, and some incredible dining options and you have the ingredients for the time of your life. Now what about costs? Currently airfares average around $400 pp from or near gateway cities. Good hotels right on the beach can be found for around $100 a night. If you can splurge a little more, say $150-175 a night, you can access some of the more luxurious hotels at the destination.

Once there, there is a huge number of activities available to you to try both in Cancun and in the immediate region. However since the theme is romance, let me stick to those activities that would fit the bill:

Lobster Dinner Cruise (evenings only)
Horseback riding, ATV riding, Speedboat riding through the "jungle"
Para-Sailing for two (shared bench seat)
Xcaret Ecological Park
Xel Ha Ecological/Water park
Visit the island of "Isla Mujeres" via Catamaran

These are just to name a few. As for dining, the options and price ranges are endless. However there are a couple of establishments to consider:

For quick and inexpensive eating, try some of the most delectable tacos you've ever tried at "El Taco Factory" across from Plaza Forum, near the "Daddy O" night club.

Lobster another love of yours? Then try it at Lorenzillos, a Cancun legend.

Beef connoisseur? Try the Argentinian steakhouse "Cambalache" in Plaza Forum. Share a two person steak there for some of the most tender steaks you'll find anywhere!

The previously mentioned Lobster Dinner Cruise? Try sailing on a beautiful lagoon at sunset, jazz music playing softly, live, and the deletable smells of Lobster and Steaks grilling onboard.....

But some of the best meals to be had at reasonable prices can actually be found in downtown Cancun, one restaurant in particular no to be missed is called "La Habichuela". Be sure to go for the outdoor seating with candlelight... the food amazingly good, incredible service, romantic ambiance. All from a place that from the street looks like a hole in the wall!

If that's not a romantic getaway, I'm not sure what is. Depending on the number of days you go, for a couple this can be had for 1500 or less!!

Hi Sheona,
Congrats on your recent marriage. Sometimes it's the journey as much as the destination that can be romantic. For instance, my wife and I are taking the Amtrak Maple Leaf Train out of Toronto, Ontario to New York City, NY later this year and are looking as forward to the journey as much as we are about seeing NY City! Just a thought in these challenging times.
Enjoy what ever you decide.

My suggestion is ...if you live in or around NYC, to select a nice play that you both would like. Then on to Red Lobster or Junior's for dinner. If either one, still take a cheese cake home for dessert and fed it to each other.
I know we are about travel but a short trip is better than a long one sometimes. Like I said if you are close to NYC.

A few things first, where do you live and what do you like to do. Some people think that base jumping off of a cliff in Yellowstone is fun and romantic, while some agree that a cruise or a spa vacation is their cup of tea. Personally, I LOVE to cruise.

I feel that it is the best vacation out there. So I would go on a cruise that is real close to home. I Live in Ft Lauderdale, so I have the three biggest ports within driving distance from me.

But if adventure is more your cup of tea, why not a ski vacation. hitting the slopes all day, relaxing with a drink in the hot tub at night.

Remember any vacation or getaway can be romantic if you make it romantic.

Hi Sheona,

First congratulations!

It is a pleasure to help you on your first Valentine's Day.
Like you know in Costa Rica is one of the favorites country for tourists, that because it´s a small country but with many things to explore, such as volcanoes, beautiful beaches, amazing´s national parks and different wonderful esenarios. And it is true the economic situation affects to everybody now. But always I say the best option for a Valentine's day, the cost is not care, for have what you want. Here are 4 star hotels that offer all included and prices start at $ 150 per night or also in hotels 3 stars the prices star at $ 60 with breakfast. That mean that you can have good price in one tropical paradise like Costa Rica.
Whatever could be your decision, just remember that the time you will past with your pair, not have price.

Alvaro & Diego Bross cr

First nothing congratulations and I hope you are having the best days with your husband.

I´m a Costa Rican travel agent and I want to suggest my country for your Valentine´s day, here we have experience mixing nature, adventure and romantic activities for newlyweds, a great example is the sailing in a beautiful sunset in one of the most famous beaches in central america as Manuel Antonio, where you can find a wonderful turquoise ocean, white sandy and the amazing rain forest. Also we have a magnificent place for couples close to the Arenal Volcano, the hotel is called Lands in Love and is designed special for honeymoons, there you can have a excellent moments around the nature in a private scenary and also you can enjoy a relaxing time in naturals hot springs of the area (Arenal Volcano, La fortuna town).
And lot more as a aerial trams into the forest for watch beautiful birds as the scarlet macaw or tucans and lovely mammals such as tamanduas or coaties.
Note: This is the best time of the year to visit Costa Rica.
Accommodation in a 4 stars hotel is between 120 and 180 USD a night per couple with meals, prices vary depending on location. Hot springs in a great resort as Baldi charge only 30 USD a person, or the world famous Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort in 55 USD.
Of course we have all the adventure activies waiting for you such as canopy (zipline), horse back ridding, kayaking, white water rafting, scuba diving, sport fishing, catamaran cruise to wonderfal islands as tortuga and san lucas, crocodile safary boats, suspending bridges into the forest and much more!

Sheona,

Probably a little cold for Niagra Falls...or Canada. Unless you find a cabin with a fireplace and a bear skin rug. (bring wine and food).
Burlington, VT may be pricy. Of course, your budget and what you consider to be great value are unknown to me. I will not assume much, other than you seek ideas that may be less expensive than others.
Washington DC is going to be a little hectic with the Presidential stuff settling in...but it can be very romantic being part of history and walking through the monuments. (Of which I would take Amtrak there for a relaxing, romantic ride)

Carnival's cruises out of New York City don't start running until April. Norwegian Cruise Lines offers a 7 day cruise to Bahamas out of NYC on Feb 14, however it is over $100/day per person for 7 days.
Lucky for you, you may have access to several major airports... if you can fly inexpensively to Miami, you can hop a 3 day cruise from there on Carnival or Norwegian CL. Cruises are great value and can be romantic. Food is included...

There are last minute deals posted weekly on my travel site www.OfficialExoticExcursions.com, however it is too soon to see the weekend of Valentines.
(If you check it out, you will want to register for the Trip of a Lifetime Sweepstakes!)

Do you know of any Bed & Breakfasts where you could go for a night or two? Fireplace, cozy...
Major hotels tend to offer nice weekend packages also - Romantic Getaways. Staying in town can still be a vacation.
Hotels may also be booked on my website, and there are a lot of them, all different prices and quality.
I love a night at a hotel and a couples massage at the spa. I order room service and bring my own wine from home, to meet my own budget.

I always love NYCity - carriage rides through Central Park, hot cocoa at Dean & Delucas, a matinee theatre performance or sporting event with half-priced tickets purchased the day of at the TKTS booth, and romantic walks through the city. To me, NYC is full of life and love all year round, and the brisk air makes the carriage rides all the cozier. I don't eat in time square - I find a deli a few blocks over and get real NY food - romance need not be gourmet, although NY has plenty of that. Maybe stroll into the W Hotel bar for one cocktail. Reservations for the Valentine weekend will be difficult, so room service may be the most romantic option.
Of course, going anywhere new for the 2 of you could be romantic.

Depending on where you went on your honeymoon, I would suggest a incredible African Safari. We have great values on absolutely wonderful trips to fit the number of days you have in mind, coupled with some fantastic First Class and Business Class airfares. There is absolutely nothing more romantic than the stillness of the African landscapes, the grandeur of the majestic vistas, and of course the truly amazing array of fauna, foliage and wildlife.
Another suggestion would be a incredible journey to Northern India. Tahiti is truly amazing and is just amazingly beautiful.
Any Tom, Dick, or Harry can get in the car and drive to a local B&B if you just have a night or two, but you will pay dearly for those venues over Valentines Weekend. So make your expenditure count for every penny and get more bang for your bucks and do something truly exotic.
