Discover Made-in-Hawai‘i Everything at Festivals, Events & More Across the Islands

Hawai‘i is home to an abundance of artisans, farmers and crafters who imbue the spirit of the Islands in everything they create. The events and destinations below are superb gateways for finding made-in-Hawai‘i products, food and treasures.

Kaua‘i
Step back in time at Kōloa Plantation Days, an annual festival celebrating the island’s multicultural heritage and sugar-industry history. Hosting multiple food, craft, cultural and sporting events, the 10-day July event highlights locally made products and artisans. Alakoko, a charming Līhu‘e shop known as “Kaua‘i’s House of Makers,” is focused on increasing accessibility of Kaua‘i-made products, including handmade crafts, art, food, jewelry, fashion, bath and body products and home goods.

Oʻahu
Held every August in Honolulu, the Made in Hawaiʻi Festival celebrates local products and gathers artisans, creators and producers from across the Islands. It’s an excellent one-stop shop for locally made products, including island-inspired fashion, jewelry, art, home accents, artisanal foods and snacks. Also in Honolulu, the Saturday morning Kaka‘ako Farmers Market offers a weekly dose of local flavor and community, where vendors sell fresh tropical fruits and florals, jewelry, art and tasty eats.

Maui
Experience the lively spirit of Wailuku First Friday, a monthly block party showcasing Maui’s creative community. Explore booths packed with locally crafted items, enjoy live performances and taste the creative culinary flair of food trucks and neighborhood restaurants offering island-inspired dishes. Celebrate Maui’s agricultural heritage at the annual Maui AgFest, where island farmers, food makers and chefs share their fresh-from-the-farm bounty and delicious creations. Drop by to sample farm-to-table delights, stock up on local produce and meet with the Maui community.

Hawai‘i Island
Immerse yourself in Hawaiian and community culture at the Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair, held in Hilo during the renowned annual hula festival. It’s one of the best made-in-Hawai‘i events for finding local designer fashions, hula implements, Hawaiian quilts, fresh lei and more crafted by island artisans. Each November, the Hōlualoa Village Coffee & Art Stroll spotlights the art galleries, small retailers and cafes and farms of Kona’s charming upslope coffee town. Sip the region’s best brews and browse village stores for local art and shopping.

Merrie Monarch Festival
What's Happening

Merrie Monarch Festival

The Merrie Monarch Festival, set for April 20 through 26 in its longtime hometown of Hilo on Hawai‘i Island, honors and celebrates the traditions and perpetuation of the Hawaiian dance art of hula. Tickets to the festival’s three nights of world-renowned hula competitions are always sold out long before fest week. However, Merrie Monarch Festival organizers also host several events during the length of the festival welcoming all, including a community ho‘olaule‘a (celebration) on April 20, Royal Parade through Hilo on April 26, a popular local-artisan Hawaiian arts and crafts fair April 23 through 26, and daily complimentary mid-day entertainment at the Grand Naniloa Hotel and Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. Retailers and restaurants throughout Hilo — especially in its historic bayfront downtown — also get into the spirit of the festival and celebrate Merrie Monarch week with lots of new product, great food and special sales. As for the festival’s hula competitions: all three nights are broadcast live on Hawai‘i TV and streamed live worldwide, so you can watch it all even without in-person tickets.
